#PRU13 : #BNBaru Akan Membawa Transformasi #BN4Malaysia #GE13

New Straits Times :

BARISAN NASIONAL has named an unprecedented 80 per cent new faces in its candidate line-up to wrest Selangor from Pakatan Rakyat. They include engineers, lawyers, doctors and businessmen.
BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who described the candidates as popular among the grassroots and the people of the state, said: "BN is not only ready to contest but also to fulfil the trust and confidence of the people in Selangor."
Unveiling the BN candidate line-up for Selangor's 22 parliamentary and 56 state seats at the state Umno building here yesterday, Najib, who is also Selangor BN liaison chief, said the coalition was ready to retake the state after five years under Pakatan Rakyat rule.
He said as a developed state, Selangor voters would look for highly-qualified candidates.
BN was offering such candidates but "at the same time, our candidates are popular at the grassroots level and can serve the people well. They must not only be academically-qualified but people-friendly as well".
"We have gone through a difficult experience as the opposition in Selangor and we have learned from mistakes made in the past, other than the positive endeavours carried out by BN.
"And so, as of now, I can state that Selangor BN is ready not only to contest but also to fulfil the trust and confidence of the people in Selangor," said Najib to roaring applause from those present.
Among the candidates are Perkasa vice-president Datuk Zulkifli Noordin, who will contest the Shah Alam parliamentary seat; Hulu Selangor parliamentary incumbent P. Kamalanathan and Deputy Foreign Minister A. Kohilan Pillay for the Puchong parliamentary seat.
Selangor BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Noh Omar will defend his parliamentary seat of Tanjung Karang, while state BN coordinator Datuk Seri Mohd Zin Mohamed will do the same for the Sepang parliamentary seat.
Najib said Umno would contest in nine parliamentary and 35 state seats; MCA, seven parliamentary and 14 state seats; MIC, four parliamentary and three state seats; Gerakan, one parliamentary seat; People's Progressive Party, one state seat, and an independent (Zulkifli) under the ticket of BN for a parliamentary seat.
"As a party that bows to the power and wishes of the people, we have to make the decision to reflect such an aspiration.
"I strongly believe that we have formed the best line-up capable of winning Selangor.
"This barisan transformasi (transformation front) for Selangor is not only able to fulfil the expectations of the people of Selangor, but can create a strong government for the people. We want to redeem ourselves for our losses (in 2008)."
After five years of empty promises by the Parti-Keadilan Rakyat-led Pakataan state government, Najib said that on behalf of Selangor BN, he pledged to keep all the promises made by BN.
"The rule (of Pakatan) has ended in a disappointment. But the BN candidates in Selangor will ensure all of the promises made are carried out."
Seven candidates will make a comeback after they were dropped in the 2008 general election.
Six won with big majorities in the 2004 general election, while one candidate, K.R. Parthiban, won the Ijok state seat in 2007 against Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim in a by-election.
The rest are Selangor BN publicity chairman Datuk Yap Pian Hon (Serdang parliamentary seat), Ampang Wanita Umno chief Datuk Dr Rozaidah Talib (Ampang), former Gombak MP Datuk Dr Rahman Ismail (Gombak), MCA publicity bureau deputy chairman Loh Seng Kok (Kelana Jaya), Datuk Abdul Wahab Ibrahim (Taman Medan state seat) and Lim Choon Kin (Damansara Utama).
Among the new candidates include Selangor Youth council president Datuk Ir Mohizam Ibrahim, who will stand in the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat, and BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor's brother, Datuk Tengku Rethwan, who is contesting in Seri Setia.
Party insiders said many of the candidates were strong contenders for menteri besar, should BN reclaim Selangor. Additional reporting by Eunice Au
